A.

  2. Type in "X:\Setup.exe" ("X" represents the CD-ROM).

or

  1. Click on the icon "My computer," then click "pmqf688 (X:)" ("X" represents the CD-ROM).

  2. Double click the icon "Setup.exe".

Q.

Why doesn’t my program have a print command?

A. You have the earlier version of the program which does not have the print command.  Please contact us via e-mail  for further information on obtaining the updated version.
Q.

Why can't I print with my HP Desk Jet printer?

A. Some Hewlett Packard Desk Jet printers have a driver conflict when printing from the program in Windows 95 or 98 .  To correct this, HP suggests the following steps.  Neither solution will affect other programs, and are HP supported recommendations.
  1. a. Using the Find Files or Folders Command from the Start button, search for a file called "hpfcfg*.exe." This file will be an application (*.exe) and will have numbers after it, such as hpfcfg12.exe.  If there is no "hpfcfg" file, proceed to step two.

    b. Double click the "hpfcfg**.exe" program and look for a box with Windows Printing Technology (or similar phrase), and UNCHECK it.  Click Ok, and restart the computer. This will allow the printer Driver to by-pass the spool 32 command in Windows 95 or 98, and allow the print to come out as desired.
  2. If you do not have an "hpfcfg" file, you need to install the HP Desk Jet 550c Driver. It is a preloaded driver included in the Windows 95 or 98 CD-ROM, or in a pre-installed CAB file. Using the "Add Printer" wizard, located in the Printer Folder via the Control Panel, install the HP Desk Jet 550c Driver. If prompted, place the Windows 9x CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.  Do not make this driver the default printer, and run the driver through the same parallel port (usually LPT 1).  When printing in Precision Street Maps USA v.3.0, make sure to choose this driver through the Setup command.

Q. When I zoom in, the map turns yellow, and streets do not appear.
A.
  1. Make sure the CD-ROM is in the drive and close the door.

  2. In the program, select "File" then "Configure", and  make sure your CD-ROM drive letter is selected.

  3. Click the "Zoom USA" button to view the entire continent.  It is possible that the cursor has zoomed to an area outside the United States such as Canada or Mexico.

It is also possible that a problem occurred during installation.  Precision Street Maps USA/Precision Mapping Quick Finder v. 3.0 is a 16-bit program, and does not support long file names.  Therefore, the program should not be installed to the Program Files folder.

If this is the case, you’ll need to uninstall and re-install the program.  When the installation program prompts you to specify the folder where the program is to be installed, make sure it does NOT say C:\PROGRAM FILES\PMQF30.  If it does, edit the folder name so it says C:\PMQF30, and continue with the installation,

Q. When I search for a street or city, I get the message "No matches found".
A.
  1. Make sure the CD-ROM is in the drive.
  2. Double-check the spelling of the street or place.  Occasionally, unexpected spaces in words are found in the directory.  For example, when looking for "DeKalb, IL", commonly spelled as one word, the search option will only find it if a space is added ( De Kalb, IL ).  Note: Do not put a period after abbreviations.
  3. Simplify the search by shortening your entry.  As an example, instead of looking for "South State Street" in Chicago, just try looking for "State".
  4. Increase the "radius" (the searching area) to a larger value.
  5. If roads are not appearing, refer to the question "My map turns yellow when I zoom in".
  6. If, by zooming in to a desired location and the specific street you are looking for does not appear, but surrounding streets do, then the street was not included in the database.

Q. Why doesn’t Precision Street Maps USA/Precision Mapping Quick Finder v. 3.0 map out routes for me?
A. Precision Street Maps USA/Precision Mapping Quick Finder v. 3.0 was not designed to perform route calculations from one point to another.  Precision Mapping Traveler 4.0 does have that capability along with a GPS interface.  Please contact us via      e-mail  for more information.

Q. Why does my mouse cursor blink and disappear when using moving about the screen?
A. The combination of high-end, or even low end for that matter, ATI graphics cards and the Windows 95/98 operating system may cause erratic results in 16-bit applications.  Most common, is the 'disappearing mouse cursor'; when the cursor is moved, it blanks out.   To fix this, perform the following steps:

Windows 98:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and go to 'Properties'.  In the Display Properties box, choose the 'Settings' tab.
  2. In the 'Settings' tab, click 'Advanced'.
  3. On the 'Adapter' tab, click 'Change'.
  4. Windows 98 will tell that it will search for new drivers, click 'Next'
  5. The next will have two choices, the first one, having Windows search for a better driver, and the second, choose from a list in a specific location.  You want to choose the second option.  Click 'Next'.
  6. On the left side you will see the Manufacturer's list and on the right, the Models list.  Choose your manufacturer and the model of your graphics card.  Click 'Next'

  7. You may be prompted for your Windows 98 CD-ROM, so be prepared with the CD-ROM disk.  When done copying files, press 'OK' to exit out of the Display Properties.  Windows will ask you to restart your computer, choose 'Yes'.

Windows 95:

  1. Right-click on the desktop, and choose 'Properties'.
  2. Now click the 'Settings' tab.  Click 'Advanced', and choose the 'Adapter' tab.  This will tell you the name of your video card.  Now click the 'Change' button.

  3. Choose 'Show all devices’ A list of Manufactures and a list of Models will appear.
  4. At the top of the Manufacturers list, choose 'Standard Display Adapters'.
  5. On the right side under the 'Models' section, choose Super VGA.  Click 'OK'.
  6. Click 'OK' again to get out of the Display Properties.  The computer will ask you if you want to restart your computer, choose 'YES'.
