Answers

Problem: Error 1904. Module C:\Windows\System32\oc30.dll failed to register.

Solution: This error may occur, during installation on some systems, possibly because oc30.dll is already present and used by another application.  Although the error message appears, the software installs properly and the software should work as expected.

Problem: I'm missing one of the CD's, the packaging contained two of the same CD's.

Solution: (Prior to 9/1/2006): Contact UnderTow Software Corp. for a replacement package or CD.

Is the program compatible with Windows Vista or Windows 7 ?

Answer: The program was released in early 2005, long before Vista was released (and MUCH earlier before Windows 7 was available), so no special provisions were made to make it compatible with that operating system.  Having said that, the program has been installed and appears to run fine on all versions of Vista, both here *and* as reported by users.

Some users have reported that they get error messages of the sort "xxxx.OCX or xxxx.DLL or one of its components is missing or is not registered.  That usually is the result of the new security features in Vista which may be preventing components from registering properly in Windows.

One of the remedies is to install the program and run it while logged-in as "The Administrator"  (not just as a user with administrative privileges), or right-click on the program shortcut and use the "Run as Administrator" option.

If that still fails, the user may need to manually register the control(s) with Windows using the Windows RegSVR32.exe service (Check Windows, Help for details on how to use the utility to register components).

Problem: I re-installed the program, because of a system crash, and now when I go to your web site (www.registermyapp.com) to register my program, I get an error message that it cannot be done, because the version is too old.  What do I do?

Answer: Indeed, you cannot register a new license for version 7.0 of the program because no new (copies) licenses of that version have been sold for a year, or so.  There are no new licenses to register.  However, the message on the web site you visited also says that you can transfer your existing/old registration to a new computer/setup, so that you can continue to use that version for as long as you wish.

(I).  When you originally registered your copy of the program (and the last time you may have transferred the registration), you were given three pieces of information.  (a) A product Code, (b) A Serial Registration # and (c) a Transaction #.  That information was also emailed to the email address you provided during the registration process, with a note to "Keep this information in a safe place, you will need it if you ever have to re-install the program".

(II). This is how you can transfer your old registration to the new system/setup.

1. Go to: www.registermyapp.com

2. Select the option: Transfer My Existing Registration to a New Computer

3. When the dialog (shown below) appears, Enter the registration information mention in (I) above in the "Transfer From" block and the Product Code displayed in the registration dialog of your new installation (when you selected either register by phone, or register on the internet), to receive a new Serial Registration Code.

Problem: When I zoom in close (closer that 2-mi) I can't see any Local streets

Solution: Usually, that's an indication that (a) the installation failed and there are no local street data files installed on your system, and/or (b) your datapaths are set incorrectly.

(a) You can tell if local files have been installed on your system by taking a look at the programs "States" folder.  This is a sub-folder off the main folder where the eprogram was installed.  If you used the default settings, then this would be:

 c:\Program Files\Precision Mapping Streets and Traveler 7.0\States

if you did not install using the default settings, then look for

X:\MyPath\States

where X:\MyPath\  - is the location where you installed the program.

There should be 66 "large" files with the extension .ZPG  in that folder and at least two files with the extension .SIG  If not, you need to reinstall the program.  If the files are there, take a look at (b) below.

(b) The data paths in the program are set incorrectly.  Select File, Configurations and take a look at the "Data" tab.  There are 4 data paths.  Make sure they are pointing to the correct folders, i.e.

Data1 Path = X:\MyPath\Data1

Data2 Path = X:\MyPath\Data2

Data3 Path = X:\MyPath\Data3

States Path = X:\MyPath\States

where X:\MyPath\  - is the location where you installed the program.

For example, if you had used the defaults, during set-up, the Data1 Path should be:

 c:\Program Files\Precision Mapping Streets and Traveler 7.0\States

Make sure you enter the correct paths in the Configurations dialog, then close the dialog, close the program and restart it.  You should be able to see local roads if you zoom below the 2-mile scale.

Problem: The software is not working with your GPS receiver.

Possible Solution (1):

If you are attempting to use the software with a USB GPS receiver, you will need to get a USB to COM Port software driver from the GPS manufacturer.  This driver will capture the information coming in to the USB port and internally divert it to a COM port.  Most GPS unit manufacturers use *proprietary* COM emulations in their USB devices, anyway, and they have recently made software device drivers available for free (on their web sites) to allow *other* mapping applications to work with their hardware.  Find the manufacturer of your GPS, go to their web site and look for a USB serial emulator driver.

For example, here is the description from the Delorme web site: (http://www.delorme.com/support/gps/lt20001.asp)

"DeLorme Serial Emulation Driver for USB Earthmate® GPS and Earthmate® GPS LT-20 Receiver

This update installs the DeLorme Serial Emulation Driver so that the USB Earthmate GPS and Earthmate GPS LT-20 receiver can be recognized in DeLorme Mapping applications as well as other NMEA 0183 compliant mapping applications".

Possible Solution (2):

You need to make sure that the settings on your GPS receiver, and/or any USB/COM emulator drivers, are the same as the settings in Precision Maping Streets & Traveller (e.g. the COM port #, the Baud rate, etc.)

 - The Arrow is pointing in the wrong direction when connected to a GPS device

 - The Program will not allow any more than 20 User Views to be defined

 - I used to link to dbf files with older versions, is that no longer possible?

These issues were addressed in the Service Packs to the program, available for downloading here.

I get several errors when importing Excel files for routing [OptiRouter]

The most likely culprit is the specification of the various fields, during the import process.  The Excel files that is being imported should contain each of the Address, City, State, ZipCode information in individual columns.   If a single column (cell) contains, for example, the City, State, ZipCode information, simply separated by commas, the import process will not work as intended.

For example, if your excel data is arranged as shown below, the import process will fail

A B C
Name Address City, State, Zip
J. SomeName 100 Some Street SomeCity, NM, 29123

If the excel data is organized this way, the import should be successful

A B C D E
Name Address City State ZipCode
J. SomeName 100 Some Street SomeCity NM 29123

After I import my points, I still can't get the routes calculated [OptiRouter]

The most common problem is that some of the imported points (addresses) have not geocoded properly and the Stop/Via point for the specific address has ended up with a Longitude and Latitude of 0,0, i.e., some point in the middle of the Atlantic.

This could be the result of improperly formatted data in the original data file, mistyped city, state names, etc.

You can find out which stop points have the 0,0 coordinates, correct the error in the original data and re-import the file.  If you click on a stop point in the routing dialog and then momentarily rest the mouse pointer there, the coordinates of the highlighted point should be displayed.  Alternatively, if you have saved the points to a file, from the routing dialog, you can open and view that file with any text-editor program (it a plain ASCII text file), and see which point coordinates are 0,0.

I am trying to use the program with UiView and wonder if you could help me!

UnderTow Software has nothing to do with the development, distribution and/or support, and has no relation with UiView, other than we know it works with Precision Mapping. As far as we know, Version 7.0 *does* work with UiView. For more detailed information you may visit one of the UiView support web sites, e.g.

http://www.ui-view.org/uiview32/uivpmap.shtml
http://www.ui-view.org/uiview32/PrecisionMapping8.htm
http://wa8lmf.net/aprs/pmap8_notes.htm

Note: Please, do not call UnderTow Software with questions of how to make UiView run, or why you can't see maps when running UiView, etc. UnderTow software tech support is not familiar with UiView and cannot provide any support for it.

Many of the addresses I import from my excel file, are not geocoding properly, even though I have downloaded and installed all the available service packs [Optirouter]

It appears that during the installation process of the service packs, on some systems, some of the file name extensions are not properly assigned.  This particular problem is related to the CITIES03 file located in the DATA3 folder of the data set (if you have installed this in the default folder, then it would be in:

c:\Program Files\Precision Mapping Streets and Traveler 7.0\data3

Look in that DATA3 folder and see if there is file CITIES03.BIN and a CTIES03 (with no extension, and with a date stamp later than the file with the .BIN extension).  If that's the case, then it's an indication that the file extension was not transferred correctly.  You can correct the problem by doing the following (in the order given below).

1. Make sure Precision Mapping is NOT running.

2. Rename the "cities03.bin" file to "cities03.old"

3. Rename the  "cities03" file to "cities03.bin"

4. Restart the Precision Mapping Program

5. Attempt the Geocoding process that was failing - it should now work.
